Ralph Kuhn is a Senior Consultant at Procept Associates Ltd, a premier provider of professional project management consulting and training. Since apprenticing as a commercial construction project manager in the Toronto area in the late 1980’s, Ralph’s career has expanded to a wide array of roles and industries.
Over a four year period, Ralph played integral parts in planning and tracking two of Canada’s most significant financial mergers, Scotia Bank’s acquisition of National Trust in 1998, followed by Toronto Dominion / Canada Trust in 2000 and 2001. Ralph’s scheduling contributions nicely coincided with the enthusiasm that the profession was enjoying, as PMO’s gained recognition and respect. He earned his PMP certification in 1999. In 2008 Ralph added the PMI Scheduling Professional credential to his resume, when he was one of the first in Canada to qualify and pass the original exam.
Public sector experience included planning and scheduling a number of hospital projects and Oshawa’s new University of Ontario Institute of Technology. Between 2006 and 2008, Ralph was employed at the former SMART Systems for Health. This provincial agency acts as Ontario’s health information curator, hosting Ontario’s citizens’ highly private information on secure, high speed, high availability systems. He continues to watch with interest as Ontario proceeds down the path to an integrated health care information system, expanding and linking early building blocks from his portfolio.
On the consulting side, opportunities have regularly landed him where facility change, business change and information technology intersect. Ralph’s passion for practical solutions adding real business value, motivated him to share these techniques as an instructor in the MBA program at the Schulich School of Business at York University. His war stories (sometimes battling the establishment) combined with carefully vetted academic theory, was especially appreciated by the mature MBA students, over a seven year period.
As well as being designated as a PMP and a PMI-SP, Ralph is a registered Professional Engineer.
